The U.S. is a worse place than ever to retire

And it probably won't get better next year, either.

A global report ranking countries on their retirement security has demoted the United States from 14th place last year to 17th overall, behind Norway and Switzerland at the top. The U.S. is also ranked behind the Czech Republic, but above France and the UK.

The report ranks the health of countries’ finances on several criteria including material well-being, quality of life, health, and financial retirement. The U.S. performed poorly in material well-being because of steep income inequality, and the country’s health rating was dinged because of below average life expectancy given the large amount of money expended on health care when compared to other, higher ranking nations.
